Holistic Dentistry is About Treating the Whole Person
An increasing number of dental patients and dental health practitioners have begun to seek alternative methods for treatment that rely less on invasive procedures and the use of toxic or harmful materials. But what does it mean to practice Holistic Dentistry? What’s holistic for one dentist may not be seen that way for another, but there are some commonalities that you can expect to experience whenever you visit any holistic dentist, ours included.

Dentairvac – Aerosol Vacuum
We are proud to announce the use of DentAirVac in our office.
DentAirVac is an oral aerosol vacuum designed to remove potentially toxic odors, vapors and particles away from the immediate breathing area of the doctor, assistant and patient. It captures odors and vapors in the dental operatory that escape from the patient’s oral cavity notably during the mercury removal process in order to protect the patient and staff. This vapor is odorless and invisible and therefore very insidious. The unit is also useful in the capture and filtration of aerosols finer than 25 microns.
Excellent for capturing dental oral aerosols including
- Mercury Vapor during amalgam removal
 - Aluminum Oxide Air Abrasion Particulate
 - Laser Smoke Plume
 - Electrosurgery Smoke Capture
 - Composite BPA Grinding Dust
 - Airborne Blood Pathogens and Viruses
 - Ozone Removal From Immediate Breathing Area
 - Water Spray Aerosols
 - Prophy Powder
 - Disinfectant Control
 - VOCs
 - Overall Improvement of Infection Control Program

Nonsurgical Gum Treatment
What we do
The approach includes phase contrast microscope – to diagnose the type of bacteria that causes the disease.

Comprehensive periodontal exam
Dr. Joita and team use a non surgical method to treat gum disease. This is a non invasive method and holistic approach to help patients in recovering their oral health.
For patients who present in the early stages of periodontal disease, nonsurgical periodontal therapy is often the first line of defense against further disease progression. These days, dental professionals have access to an arsenal of nonsurgical treatment options, including manual and ultrasonic scaling and root planing (SRP), antimicrobials, laser therapy, and a variety of other adjuncts.
I know it can be challenging to weed through the clinical evidence to determine the best course of action for patients who may benefit from nonsurgical periodontal therapy, especially when many of these treatments have been developed and marketed with commercial interests in mind.
Ozone Therapy
After first being used in Sweden in the 1920’s, ozone therapy is widely used around the world for sterilizing water for medical operations and disinfecting medical and operating equipment.
Ozone Therapy Ozone is O3 oxygen. Instead of two molecules of oxygen bonded together, there are three moluecules. Ozone is a gas and most familiar to us as a smell.
Ozone is both an oxidant and an oxidizer. As an oxidant, it destroys pathogens (bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites). Human cells have antioxidant enzymes that break down ozone and are not harmed by ozone. Pathogens have very little or no antioxidant enzymes, which makes them vulnerable to oxidants like ozone.
